Hindenburg is attacking heavily along the Lys battlefront fro-a near Merville to Neuve Eglise. Bailleul ’ was taken during the night; also Ravetsberg Ridge, slightly to the east of the village. The enemy, after a heavy fcrtnchmortar bombardment, attempted to storm positions on the eastern edge of Nieppe Forest. The attackers forming the southern flank were caught under shellfire and faded to make progress. The northern flank developed an attack fiercely, but.it was smashed before it reached its objectives, and thd attackers were thrown back. The attack on Bailleul began early at night and was preceded by a terrific bombardment.
