PROSPECTS OF SETTLEMENT.

AVELLINGTON, April 17. The Prime Minister had a conference to-day with representatives of the coal miners regarding the strike at the Paparoa mine. After the conference, Mr- Massev said there was a fair prospect of a settlement, but the result would not be known until the union delegates had time to convey the proposals to their union.
