CLOTHES AND METALS COLLECTED AND REISSUED. Brigadier-General L. W. Atcherlev, appointed Director of Salvage, is now (says the London Dail v Mail) in France arranging for the collection of large quantities of war material lying there unused. Empty shellcases and worn-out clothing have been sent hack to England since the beginning of the war. and the sale of rags alone from worn-out uniforms has realised mprn than £1,000,000. At Dewshurv 300 women sort the clothing which has been returned from stores find battlefields. More than 40,000,000 articles have been dealt with, and many have been repaired and reissued. The scheme of salvage lias been extended, and a special board at tlie head of which is Lieutenant-General Sir John Cowans, has been appointed to control it.
