A ROUGH TRIP.
ROSAMOND’S RUN FROM AUCKLAND. The Union Company’s produce steamer Rosamond, which is a well known trader to this part, experienced a very rough trip from Auckland to "Wellington a week ago, taking over a week to cover the distance between the two ports. She left Auckland the previous Saturday afternoon and only reached Wellington last Saturday. The day after leaving Auckland she ran into very heavy south-easterly weather, and on the Monday had to seek shelter under Cape Runaway. The extreme severity of the weather made it impossible to proceed on the voyage, and it was not until Wednesday that the vessel was able to continue on to Wellington. When the Rosamond eventually crept out she left no fewer than five other vessels still sheltering in the vicinity, namely, the Awahou, Kahu, Ruru. Echo and a Union Company’s steamer. Two of these were sheltering under Lottin Point, and the remainder under Runaway. Though considerably buffeted, the Rosamond suffered no serious damage. At some stages of the voyage huge seas swept over the vessel, and, in addition to some of the deck fittings being swept away, the second mate’s cabin was flooded, the occupant losing some of his effects. It iias been reported that some fear was expressed that the Rosamond might have been handicapped by a shortage of coal, hut inquiry showed that the bunkers were well supplied. The Rosamond’s troubles were by no means ended after Wednesday, for on Friday she ran into very severe weather off Castlepoint, and was further delayed in consequence.
