MAYOR AND COUNCIL.
UHE AVAIAIATE TROUBLE Press Association Telegram. TIAIARU, March 12. The Waimate Borough Councillors consider that the Aiayor (Mr Dash) has slighted them by ignoring the Council and calling a meeting of citizens to arrange a reception for the Minister for Education this week. This being the last straw of a succession of grievances, the Councillors to-night declined to transact any urgent " business and informed _ the Aiayor that they would resign in a body as they could not work with him. A deputation from the Racing Club asked for a half-holiday for race day. The Aiayor claimed it as his prerogative to'grant or refuse and said lie would refuse. The Councillors took the matter out of Ills hands and resolved. and instructed the Town Clerk to advise that- the half-holiday was agreed to.
