January L 5. ‘ In the House of Commons, Sir Eric Geddes (First Lbrd of the Admiralty) stated that the Admiralty had confirmed the finding of the Court of inquiry that the escorting vessels did their best to protect the ships. The escort fought in a proper and seamanlike manner and the covering forces took all possible stops to come to their assistance and prevent the es cape of the enemy. The Board opined that the circumstances preventing the covering forces arriving in time were unpreventable. Admiral Beatty’s disposition was the best possible with the available forces.
