MATAWHERO STOCK SALE

There was a good attendance at the Poverty Bay Stockbrokers’ Association’s stock sale held at the Matawhero yards yesterday. The demand was - fairly good and prices differed little from those ruling before the holidays. The entries of fat sheep totalled 191 and nearly all met with a ready sale under the hammer. Ewes (shorn), made from 23s to 28s. woolly owes 30s, lambs 18s 9d arid mixed ewes ancl" wethers 32s 4d. A yarding of 24 head of fat cattle met with a poor demand arftl with exception of a Jersey steer, which brought £6 ss, all were passed. Ten pigs were offered and all wore sold, sows making 50s baconers 50s, porkers to 18s, and good slipes 21s. The yarding of store sheep totalled 3712 and was made up of 1620 wethers, 1336 ewes. 590 lambs and 166 mixed two-tooths. The passings of ewes totalled 926 and included nearly all the large lines. Fat and forward ewes (old) made 21s Cd, culls to ISs 7d, two-tooths from 23s 6d, ewes of various ages from 14s Id to 16s 9d. OF the lambs offered. 247 failed to find purchasers at auction. Prices ranged from 3s for culls to 17s 2d for a fat and forward line. Ordinary store lambs made from 11s to 13s' lid. The demand for wethers was fair, but in addition to several small lines a couple of lines totalling over 600 had to he passed. The best price paid was 31s Id for a line of 153 four and sixtooths. Two-tooths brought from 20s to 23s 10, four-tootlis 30s, and mixed ages 20s. The passings totalled , 905. All the mixed two-tooths, with the exception of 47, sold at auction at prices ranging up to 22s 3d. Ninety-seven head of cattle were entered in the store cattle pens and ver v few sales were made. Weaners brought 17s, two-year heifers £5 10s, mixed yearlings £4 10s, and a cah £2 4s. The offerings of dairy cattle were limited to six. A cow clue to calve in March brought £6 17s 6cf, springing heifers from £9 to £lO, and a cow coming to profit £l2 17s Gd. Tlie following sales were made.
