BRITISH FOOD PROBLEM.
NEW DISTRIBUTION SCHEME. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, Jan. 1. The newspapers give prominence to and approve of Lord Rhondda’s memorandum to local food committees, outlining a model scheme of distribution of butter, margarine and tea, thus preventing queues. An essential feature of the scheme is that every customer shall register at one shop" for the purchase of certain foodstuffs, which he shall not he allowed to buy elsewhere. The shopkeeper is required to divide his weekly supplies among registered customers. No shopkeeper shall he allowed to register more than he can conveniently serve. The London committees will . probably meet on Wednesday to discuss the scheme. /Lord Rhondda suggests as a basis rations of four ounces of butter and margarine, 11 ounces of tea, aud half a pound of sugar weekly.
