PROFESSOR NORWOOD.

LAUGHTEIi'sEASON OPENS again.

j. The popularity in which the entertainments given by Professor Norwood are held by Gisborne theatregoers was well evidenced at the Opera House last evening, when a twonights’ season was opened, there being a largo audience present. The subject of hypnotism is always fascinating to the average human being, ancl when the subject is in the hands of so clever and able an exponent as Professor Norwood the results are, always most pleasing and entertaining. Such was the case last evening, ancl dull dismal care was driven away by the roars of hearty laughter which were produced .as a result cl the antics of the Professor’s, class. After a few preliminary experiments the Professor soon had his class working out the suggestion he gave it. In one, where the class was taken for a trip in-a balloon, the sensations of pleasure, anticipation, fear and relief were apparent on the faces of the subjects, while in another the feelings aroused by the watching of a good ding-dong football match—joy, sorrow, anger, ancl resentment —were apparent. An exhibition of catalepsy ' Was given, four of the class being, gblc to stand upon the subject who was in the rigid state and was placed across two chairs. The concluding scene was one in which the class was given the suggestion that* it was on the hanks of a river waiting for the arrival of a boat. _To while away the time, the suggestion is given for a sing-song, and several members of the class obliged with a song. “Billy” Sumner, a member of Mr. Norwood’s company, was among the members of the class. 'He had been most entertaining and amusing all the evening, ancl during this scene he sang two or three songs, finishing up with a step dance, in which all the other members of the class joined. * All was done while under hypnotic influence. To-night a complete change of programme will he given, including several feature scenes, .some of which v’ill be repeated by request.
