WOMEN AND WAR.

APPEAL TO' THE WOMEN’S NATIONAL RESERVE.

’The response of New Zealand women and girls to the appeal of tho Women’s National Reserve to enrol themselves for various kinds of voik has been undoubtedly most satisfactory. For a year past the Reserve has had a large number of names entered for clerical work, farming, shops and general duties, and the feeling of the large majority is that thev would be glad to take “substitute” work, that is. they would like to take up the work of some man, who would thus be released to join the forces. The hon. secretary ot the Reserve considers that a very line spirit is shown, and many girls in filling up their registration cards have put: “I'will do any work that is lieccssarv and' in my power. There ai‘e over 100 farm and garden women ready and capable m Wei install alone, while at the , New Plymouth, Napier, and Dannevirko centres there are. good country -rids who have registered for tami work, and would be glad to be cmrdovctl A very large number ot women clerks' have been placed bv the Reserve, but it is now necessary for employers in other branches of wo k to make their wants known and the organising officers of the W.N.R. ndl be quite ready and quite able to supply workers at the shortest notice. AH the workers and the differ exit, kinds of work are systematically tabulated and! those classed as “general, winch would include lift attendants, lettei carriers, and so on, are ready to undergo- the training to fit. them foi work. There are 350 of this class, and the only employments for nnicli there has been a poor response is for factory and domestic work. It is to be 'hoped that now the reserve has organised the workers so successfully? and ■ they on their part have come forward readily and generously, tho employers will not be behindhand in doing their .part. —Post.'
