lii an article showing that American aid has been somewhat diminutive for war relief, the New Aoik Sun has the following to say : ‘ c read that the Commission for Relief in Belgium has now distributed goods worth, about 227,000,000 dollars, of which the people of United States contributed 10,000,000 dollars, oi 4.3 per cent. This comes to less than 10 cents apiece. New Zealand has given 2.34 dollars for every one or its population, and Tasmania’s generosity is represented by gifts that work out at 6.25 dollars for each inhabitant. Of the 217,000,000 dollars that America did not give, 120,000, 000 dollars was spent in America tor goods to send to .Belgium. Of course, we have given money fofc relief ol distress in many other lands than Belgium, Poland, Serbia,. Lithuania, Albania, Armenia, and Syria have all looked to us and have not appealed without a response of some sort. This is exclusive of such hospital and relief work as has been done by (American men, women and money m France, Germany and other theatres of the war.
