Executing a plan by General Berthelot, head of the French mission' in Southern, Roumania, the army made a vigorous offensive on the river Argeliu against German arid Bulgarian troops who had crossed the Danube and were advancing on Bucharest. The enemy were thrown hack in disorder a dozen miles, and General Socecu’s army turijed the enemy’s left, cutting them completely from General Falkenhayn’s army. General Berthelot wirelessed to Paris announcing the success, _ and adding that. he intended to drive General Mackensen over the Danube,_ but General Socecu, instead of continuing the pursuit, remained , inactive, and when ordered to advance commanded his army to retreat.
