EWE FAIR.

There was a large attendance of buyers at the annual ewe fair held at the Matawhero saleyards yesterday under the auspices of the Poverty Bay Stockbrokers’ Association. There were about 30,000 sheep yarded. At the commencement of the sale the bidding was dull, but as the sale proceeded bidding became brisker and good prices were realised for good fines. . On the whole the prices realised came up to expectations, although they were no higher than prices at the ordinary weekly sales. About 27 head of fat cattle were yarded, and pearly all lines were sold under keen competition. Light cows brought from £ll 12s 6d to £H 10s, heifers £8 15s to £lO 12s 6d, heifers £S 15s to £lO 12s 6d.
