Speaking to a Wellington Post representative upon the subject of water power schemes, the Minister for Public Works, Hon. W. Massey, stated the other day that, with the advice of his expert officers, he had practically decided on three schemes of securing water-power —one for Wellington as far as Palmerston North, another for tho East Coast, and a third for the Auckland district. It would be possible to have one big scheme for the whole of the North Island, but the objection was that it would involve the making of new roads in inaccessible places. It was absolutely essential that there should be roads alongside the routes for electrical transmission, and there formation simply for hydro-electrical purposes was out or the question. Lines for the best routes are now being made so far as the Auckland district is concerned, and the same might he said regarding the Wellington district. Barracloug’s Nervine stops Toothache.
