PAYMENT OF RATES.
POSTPONEMENT GRANTED TO SOLDIER RATEPAYERS. "That in accordance with clause 49 of "The Local Authorities Empowering Act, 1915," the Council hereby postpone the date of payment of any rates (including instalments on -sewerage .house "connections) at present unpaid by any member of the Expeditionary Forces engaged on military service beyond New Zealand, such postponement to extend during the pleasure of the Council, but not to exceed three months after the termination of the war; sucTr rates also to be exempted from the 10 p.c. additional charge.” The above motion was moved by the Mayor, Air. AA 7 . G. Sherratt, at the meeting -of the'Borough. Council last night. It was seconded by Cr. AVildish, who said that some ratepayers who had a struggle to pay their rates had gone or would he going to tlie war, and considerable relief would .be given them by the postponement of the payment of tlieir rates. Cr..Hill, thought that those ratepayers who were fighting for their country' should have their rates rebated, nob postponed. The motion was carried.
