WHEN WILL IT E ND?
WHAT MR. SIDNEY LOW THINKS
Asked by the Weekly Despatch when the war will he over, Mr. Israel Zangwill, the novelist, said: “We shall have peace long before Christmas,- 1917. because the world is not utterly insane.” Mr. Sidney Low replied: “If I may hazard a prediction, J should say that the war is more likely, in some phase or another, to go into the year 1918 than to conclude before Christmas,, 1917. “Germany, is on the down grade, and tlie'doseent may be precipitously rapid during the next few months. “I fully expect that there will be many more peace offers Horn Berlin before next summer, and it may be that by that date this will approximate pretty closely to what we could accept, but it would be ridiculous to count upon a sudden and complete collapse.”
