An incident which savors somewhat of the cinema, and in which a motor car figured largely, took place recently near Tenjno, Washington. The engineer and brakesman of a lumber train left the engine travelling slowly whilst tliev held over the switch leading to the' Northern Pacific main. line. The jolting at the points caused the throttle to open full, and, rapidly gathering speed, the. locomotive left the engineer and his mate behind. Miss A. Taylor, a local motorist, observed the incident, and, picking up the crew of the train, pursued the runaway. The car, travelling at CO miles per hour, caught up the locomotive after an exciting race, and, whilst running level, the engineer leaped from the car to the engine, and succeeded in averting, what might have been a serious accident.
