Official: A small unidentified German vessel approached the Suffolk coast yesternight and fired shells. There were no casualties, and insignificant damage was done
BOMBARDMENT LASTS THREE MINUTES. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn-) (Received Jan. 28. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. Jan. 28. The raider appeared off the East Coast at 11 o’clock at night and commenced firing star shells. A shaiT) bombardment for three minutes followed, but no one was injured and there was no panic. The damage was slight. GERMAN CLAIMS. (Admiralty Per Wireless Press) (Received Jan. 28, 5.-5 p.m.) LONDON. Jan. 28. A Berlin official report announcing the Suffolk raid says:—Our light forces penetrated the English coast waters south of Lowestoft in order to attack hostile guardships, but, despite a search, could not find the enemy, whereupon our torpedo boats opened fire on the fortified places at Southwold. Full hits were observed. Our forces returned safely without observing tbe enemy.
