NEW RECRUITING SCHEME

BOARD COMMENCES ITS DUTIES

(Press Association Telegram.) - - WELLINGTON, Feb. 5. The new Recruiting Board took up its duties this week. The secretary has taken up his quarters with a staff in the old Parliamentary Buildings. Last evening circulars with full details of the new scheme were sent by the secretary to all members of the Legislature, mayors, local body chairmen, and all others engaged m recruiting work. - In a covering letter to members ot the Legislature, the Board states, among other things: “Our engagements with the Imperial authorities necessitate raising, training, equipping and sending to the front e very four weeks reinforcements of 230 u men as long as the war lasts, in addition to 34,000 troops already sent to the front and 12,000 men now m training. TYhile this represents a big effort on the part of little more than a million people, the National Register shows the number required can be maintained for a considerable time without any undue strain upon the country or its industrial life. There is no reason to think we shall be unable to enrol men on the voluntary scheme, provided a deteimined and systematic effort is made to bring home to men of military age and fitness—more especially to single men with a minimum of responsibilities—the vital necessity for their active cooperation with their comrades already at the front.” .
