. (From Our Own Correspondent.) TOKOMARU BAY, May 11. The first round for the Turnbull Cup Was Completed on Saturday last, xvhen Tokomarn City defeated the Wanderers by 12 to 3. The game throughout was in favor of the City. The scores at half-time xvere 6 to 3. Baker for the City- scored:, and J. ICirxvan potted, goal and also, scored.. The folloxving xvere prominent for City: Joe Oates, Kirwan, Harrison, and Scott. J. Loach scored for Wanderers, xvhile Noble, Erikania, and Pine played xvell for thoir side. A xv el I-attended meeting xvas held at the Te Puka Hotel on Monday nig|ht to make arrangements' far a public farexvell to Mr. S. J. Williams, our postmaster. It xvas decided to present Mr. 'Williams with a purse of sovereigns and to tender hint a farewell social in the Te: Puka Hall on Wednesday, May 26. Mr. 11. O. Daxvson, J.P., presided at the meeting, and an active committee xvas appointed to carry out tbo arrangements. The matter is being enthusiastically taken up, Mr. Williams being a general favorite. Nearly £4O xvas promised in tbo room. The send-off promises to be the largest that lias yet taken place in the Bay.

DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. On Thursday there xvas a fair attendance on the range, xvhen the last of the shooting for the Belt at 900 and 1000 was done. Tho conditions were difficult, as is usual on the local range at these distances. The most noteworthy shooting xvas done by C. W. Lynch, xvlio until the beginning of tbe season hau .never used a rifle. Commencing xx’itli an inner at 900 yards bis next txvo shots xvere misses, oxving to a complete change in the wind. He then finished xvith the following hits: 5545—23, and he again scored 23 on shooting a second time at this range. At 1000 yards he xvas the only man to put all his shots on the target, making top score with 22. The folloxving are the scores:— 900yds 1000yds C. W. Lynch... 23 &23 22& 13 W.
