RAILWAY RETURNS.
FOR GISBORNE SECTION. The returns for the Gisborne railway section for the period ended on January 31, provide the following particulars*, the figures in parenthesis being a comparison for the same period of 1913: * . First class passengers: 648 (5»9) single- and 566 (.522) return. Second class: 2697 (2802) single and 2441) (3142) return. Totals 3345 (3391) single and 3006 (3664) return, making a grand total of 6351 (7055) passengers carried. Goods:—Drays 2 (0). Cattle < (43), calves 0 (2), sheep 21,118 (15.95)), pigs 2 (62) ; total 21,129 (16,082). Chaff, lime, etc. 84 tons (30). wool 611 (407), firewood 186 (174). timber 472 (403), grain 234 (1,104). merchandise 308 (272), minerals 1.015 ( 2.259): total 2,910 (4,679). Parcels, etc: —-Parcels v i' l ' 1/96), horses 6 (5), -carriages 0 (2), dogs 100 (05); total 984 (868). Revenue: —Passengers £548 11s 4d (£571 Is 8d), parcels, luggage and mails £93 17s lid (£ K 3 Iks l"d), goods £1,197 12s 6d (£1266 14s 1 L<l). miscellaneous £4O 5s 7d (£IOB 0s <d). rents and commission £3l 2s Gd (,£46 12s 9d) : total £1,911 9s- lOd ( £2,076 8s 9d).
