POLICE AND WOMEN.
FIERCE FIGHT AT GLASGOW. MRS PANKHURST AGAIN ARRESTED. [OwITED PEEKS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT! LONDON, March 9. Mrs Pankhurst appeared at St. Andrew’s Hall, Glasgow, and spoke for two minutes, when constables rushed in. Several women, armed with truncheons, closed round ilrs Pankhurst and prepared to defend her. The police drew their batons and charged the platform. Amidst a wild struggle revolvers were fired from the platform and miniature bombs exploded. A number of women and police were injured. Mrs Pankhurst was arrested. (Received March 11, 12.20 a.m.) Mrs Pankhurst, when attempting to escape, was captured at Glasgow and bundled into a motor car. Hundreds of women attempted a rescue but mounted police rushed the crowd and Mrs Pankhurst to the police station. Meantime the fight continued at the Hall. A dozen women on the platform produced stout truncheons and stood behind a barbed wire fence concealed by flowers, burled flower-pots and chairs and poured pails of water on the police attempting to settle the four-loot platform. The police used thmr batons freely. 'Many women fainted. Later the crowd attempted to storm the police station, but .several hundred. constables repulsed them. I
