NOTES

Entries for the Great Easter and Autumn Handicaps clcjge at Christchurch on Friday next. George Jones, A. McLeod and ( C. Hennessy two winners each, and Geo. Murray and Mr E, Loisel one each, were the successful trainers at Tologa. Arosine failed to run up to lier best form at Tologa. Soultie and Faith were double winners at Tologa. The former ran very consistently at the Path and Makaraka. It was just picking up money backing Mietie at Tologa. and liis owners had no trouble in lifting the 45 so vs stake. Small plums are sweet! It was pleasing to note George Murray had a turn of luck at Tologa Bay last Saturday. For a long time bad luck had followed George, but it is to be hoped now that he has broken the spell that he will get his share of the good things going. Faith had no difficulty in landing a double at Tologa Bay. She has picked up a lew small stakes since the New Year, which vpuld help t<? pay her owner for the long spell without a win. F. C. Porter, Geo. Murray and A. McLeod cleaned up the programme at Tologa, the former riding four winners and the two latter a double each. The North Island horseman, Hector Gray, put up a fine achievement at Wangatui by winning the Domain, City and Suburban Handicaps, the last three events of' the day’s card. On each ocasion liis mount was either first or second favorite. Byron simply made hacks of his opponents in the Autumn Handicap at Woodville, and after liis consistent performances of late he was allowed to pay a false price in a field of nine moderates. There is a possibility of Sister Radius, who won the Hazlett Memorial Plate at Dunedin, being sent to Australian to compete in some of the Autumn events. If this proposal is carried out she will he mated with one of the crack Australian sires before returning. It was rather a coincidence that the three horses on which W. Bell performed the-“hat trick” at Woodville on the opening day wore number ten saddlecloth. It is said that Coronetted will 1>“ schooled over big fences, and that his next appearance will be in the National Steeplechase at Riccarton. Sauci’s defeat at Dunedin on Wednesday last proved very costly to backers, and no doubt those who supported the Charlemagne 11. gelding for the Flying Handicap at Wingatui are now doing* some so'id thinking. Sauci went under on Thursday, Sister Radius beating him by two and a-half lengths in the Hazlett Memorial Plate of seven furlongs. In my notes last week I stated that Gazette had accrued vicious habits, but liis owner informs me that such is not the case.
