“Grazing for horses —with docked tails, fkl a day; with long tails, Is a day.” This is tlie notice which appears in a meadow near Dieppe. The owner ol the meadow, when asked for an explanation of the difference in the charges, replied : “A docked horse is constantly irritated by the flies, and keeps on stopping his grazing to drive them off by swinging his head. A long-tailed horse keeps off the flies (with bis tail and so can keep on bis grazing without interruption.”
