MR BRYAN’S NEW DRINK.
Grape juice has boon abandoned by Mr Bryan, the UnitedgStates Secretary of State as a beverage at diplomatic dinners for something looking more like wine.
The change is due to the feeling of Washington hostesses with an eye for an harmonious scheme of table decoration that the dull red of Mr Bryan’s favorite drink clashed with the sparkle of the champaigne served to the other guests. Hence they turned their attention to finding a beverage sufficiently harmless and chromatically correct. It was left to Mine. Pezet, wife of the Peruvian Minister, at a recent dinner to fill the Secretary of State’s glass with pineapple juice and a “dash” of soda water. The color and the effervescence of the drink, which was poured fre m a. decanter into a champagne glass, provided sufficient illusion. The change is approved by Mrs Bryan.
