The Mayor (Mr. J. R. While it was hardly likely that Lord Liverpool would be able to come as far north while Parliament was sitting, the Mayor had hopes that the town would in due course bs honored by a Vice-Regal visit.

A pretty wedding took place at the residence of the bride’s parents on Saturday morning, when Mr M. C. Walker, manager of the local branch of Messrs Aitken and Sons, was united to Miss Ethel Ambridge, eldest daughter of Mr C. H. Ambridge. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. J. A. Lochore. Miss 'Flo Ambridge, sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid, while Mr H. J. Poole acted as best man. The happy couple, who were the recipients of a large number of valuable presents, left by the steamer on Saturday morning to spend their honeymoon ini Sydney, Melbourne and Tasmania.

Much, sympathy will he expressed for Mr. and Mrs/F. J. Lysnar on the 'death of their son, John Horne Payne, tSVaged 4A years, which occurred at 6 ' o’clock last evening. The little, fellow, who was known as “Jack,’’ was a bright and sturdy child, and accompanied his parents on their recent trip Home. He was apparently in the best of health on Saturday, and accompanied his father to town. On returning home the lad complained of a pain in the stomach and of feeling tired. After a little petting, the child fell into a sound sleep, and slept peacefully through the night. About daylight yesterday morning the little fellow got out of his cot and went over to his father’s bed in the same room. He appeared to be then quite well. About 7 a.m. his father noticed that something was the matter with the child. He was unconscious, and showed signs of twitching. Dr Wilson was summoned, and had the little sufferer removed to Rosstrevor Hospital. Drs Wilson and Kidd and Nurses Wheeler

and Roode remained in constant attention on the patient throughout the whole of the day, but despite their M unremitting efforts the little fellow ® gradually sank, and passed away at 6 o’clock, the cause of death being intestinal trouble. The interment will be delayed until the two brothers" of deceased, who are at present in school at Auckland, can arrive here.
