PLEA FOR A RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION.
[TO THE EDITOR] Sir, —Will you kindly inform me, if it is legal for the Borough Council to increase its officers’ salaries without first consulting the ratepayers. lam of Opinion that the Council has no right to do so, and that the Government Auditor will have something to say on the matter when he comes along. I think it is high time the ratepayers of Gisbdrne formed themselves into an Association, so that in future they could enter an emphatic protest against any salaries being. increased that they already consider meet requirements, and at the same time keep a wary eye on other vital financial questions that affect their interests. I hope to see some prominent citizen move in the matter.—l am, etc., PROGRESS.
