A SERIOUS CHARGE.
MENTAL HOSPITAL ATTENDANT ACCUSED OF MURDER.
SEARCHING INQUIRY BY POLICE.

A serious charge is preferred against Joseph Martin Chapman, lately an attendant at Sunnvside Mental Hospital, who was arrested this morning by Detectives Ward and Jorrens. About three weeks ago a patient in the mental hospital named Charles Thomas McMeekan died in the institution and an inquest was held by Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., who returned a verdict that death was due to hemorrhage of the lungs. It is stated, however, that the circumstances connected with McMeekan's death were such that the authorities caused further investigations to bo made, and it is understood tliat, as a consequen'ce, Chapman was suspended and the whole matter was put in the hands of the police-for, further investigation. . The detectives made very searching Inquiries into- the matter and this morning Detectives Ward and Torrens arrested Chapman on a charge of murder. Chapman is now m the lock-up at the City Police Station and will be brought before the Court on Monday morning.
