SOLICITOR—BUT NOT SHAREBROKER. [PBES9 ASSOCIATION TELEGBAMT! AUCKLAND, July 25. A solicitor, Percy Spencer, was charged at the Police Court to-day with acting as a sharebroker without being licensed. Spencer was stated to have sold a parcel of shares for a client, who received £77 10s instead of the full price, £BO, Spencer retaining the balance. For the defence, it was argued that Spencer acted as a solicitor and was entitled to remuneration, whether the shares lisyl been sold or Ifot. After argument, the Magistrate said that Spencer had acted as a sharebroker and would have to be convicted. A fine or £o was imposed.
FIRE AT HASTINGS
[PBBBB ASSOCIATION TEPEOBaMJ HASTINGS, July 25
A fire occurred this afternoon in a five-roomed cottage in Avenue Road, occupied by Herbert Pullen, and owned by John Cowan, inn. The flames had a good hold when the alarm was given, and, despite the efforts of the firemen, the interior of the building was gutted. No one was at home when the fire commenced. The insurances are: House, £450, in Comxneicial Union ofiice; and the furniture, £IOO, in the Norwich Union. .Very little was saved.
