KIA ORA (1) v. TE RAU (1). This match ended in a draw, each side scoring one goal. Play m the first spell was, for the most part, of an uninteresting order neither side showing any combination In the second spell Te Rau through good combined play, attacked strongly and their efforts resulted in a goal off the stick of Armstrong. In the last xO minutes Kia Ora woke up and good play by Olsen, McGufhe and McLachlan saw the latter find.the net with a fine shot. MIRA (2) v. TUKAPA (1)Most interest was centred in this
match as had Tukapa won they would have had a very fair chance of waning the Thursday competition. The standard of play shown right throughout this game was quite equal to any given by the best Clubs in New Zealand and was by far the best exhibition of hockey seen this year. From the bully-off Mira rushed play to Tukapa circle, hut Pollock’s shot went wide. Mira continued attacking for some time and just before half timo Tukapa took a turn, McLisky scoring after a really brilliant passing rush and half-time saw the score Tukapa 1, Mira nil. On resuming play became very exciting, each side visiting their opponents’ goal alternately, sound defence only saving many goals being registered. With ten minutes to go Mira, realising that they must score soon to avert defeat, set up a most determined attack, Huston, Roderick and Pollock bringing off some pretty combined play, the two former registering- a goal each in quick succession. Tukapa attacked momentarily, but were met with very determined defence, and before time was called Mira narrowly missed scoring a shot from Garrett’s stick being turned over the bar by Tukapa’s goal-keeper. THE LADIES’ MATCH. On No. 1 ground yesterday Old Girls triumphed over Gisborne by the large margin of six goals to one. Mr McLean refereed.
