ROTORUA SETTLER’S BANKRUPTCY
ALLEGATIONS OF FRAUD. [P2EBB ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM} HAMILTON, July 24. At a meeting of creditors in the estate of Alfred Crossby, a settler of Rotorua, held at Hamilton, the liabilities were shown at £4OO and the assets nil. It was stated that bankrupt, under the name of Croslev, went bankrupt in Wellington 15 years ago. The Assignee s tat eel that bankrupt bad been convicted 17 times on various charges. Bankrupt said all the property belonged to his wife. lie was only acting as her manager. He denied that be placed property in his wife’s name after his bankruptcy. It was decided to prosecute under the penal clauses, it being considered that the growing opinion that commercial houses could be defrauded with impunity should be ended. _ The wife consented to file within a fortnight.
