ATTENDANCE ON HORSES
CASE OF INTEREST TO CARTERS
[PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, May 29
A case of considerable interest to carriers all over the Dominion was brought up at the Magistrate’s Court this morning, when Messrs Winstone, Ltd., wore proceeded against by the Inspector of Awards (Mr. W. Newton) for failing to show in their wages and overtime books the hours worked by their drivers .in attending to horses before and after work.
It was explained’ that the man got no pay for their attendance on horses, but the time occupied in such attendance must not exceed -eight hours per week.
As it was stated! that both parties were agreed upon the facts, Mr. Kettle, S.M., suggested that a declaratory judgment under the Act of 1908 should be obtained' from a Judge of the Supreme Court, whoso fugling would carry more weight than the Magistrate's, particularly in other parts of the Dominion. Mr. McVoagh, who appeared for the defendants, agreed with this view, and the case was accordingly shelved, so as to enable judgment to he obtained, if nossible, before the close of the present Supreme Court session®. -
