COMMERCE. £ Pit ESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM J WANGANUI, May 27. A special meeting of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce was held . tonight to discuss the Wanganui River service. The attendance was not large. The chairman, ruled that up personal grievances should be ventilated'. . The chairman moved, and it was carried: • 'That in order to facilitate the working of the river steamer service without undue friction, a complete schedule of charges for both passengers and cargo to various points of the river between Wanganui and Taurnariinui bo published and made available to all requiring to use the river service.” It was complained that there were only two charges between "Wanganui and Tamnarunui. Mr. W. ,J. Poison moved: That the Chamber is of opinion that the time has arrived for the Government to inaugurate an upriver service tor the Wanganui River, and that an expert, be sent Home to arrange for instructions and purchase of a fleet of steamers. Mr. A. Habrick stated that for years past lie. wanted the Government to take over control. He regarded the Latter part of the motion as tantamount to a proposal to confiscate the present line of stemaers.. After discussion the motion was carried, the last sentence being deleted 1 . Tlie resolutions will be. forwarded to the Raver Service Commission.
