GISBORNE HIGH SCHOOL.

MEETING OF GOVERNORS. The High School Board held its adjourned monthly meeting yesterday; present. Messrs' E. H. Mann (chairman), J. R. Kirk, and A. F. Matthews, and the lion. Captain Tucker, M.L.C. GENERAL. The arrangement entered into with Messrs Baker and Oldfield for their lease of To Marunga was approved. The secretary read an application which is being made, in accordance with the Act for £65 8s for certain necessary apparatus. There was read a copy of a statement of c.aim, on account of free places. The following particulars were appended:—Net annual income derived from endowments, nil; number of pupils on roll on March 1st — hoys 50, girls 43, total 93; qualified for full capitation, 43 boys and 39 girls; half-capitation, 2 boys and 3 girls; total amount claimed, £352 Is 8d. —The Chairman remarked that the amount claimed for was £387. The Treasury advised that £55 8s 9d was forwarded as capitation on account of special technical classes at Gisborne aucl country centres. The Rev. D. C. Bates, Government Meteorologist, wrote that liis office could not give practical assistance in supplying instruments for the establishing el' school meteorological observatories. The Ven. Archdeacon Williams, F.R.M.S., would be able to give the best advice on the matter. \ good observatory could be equipped for £3O. —It was decided to leave the matter at this, as the Board did not have the immediate prospect of exexpending the .amount suggested. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT. The Principal (Mr Frank Foote) reported that, during April, work had progressed steadily. The roll number was 98 (57 boys and 41 girts), an in ;i'.;*a.S3 of one for the month. Eight w&ro in the preparatory department, and 90 in the secondary school (only four paying fees). The end-term examinations showed that solid work had been dene. The number of boarders at the house was the same as last month (12). For next term, two new boys were enrolled, while one boy was leaving. The sewer connections were being installed. accounts. Accounts amounting to £289 Kb 3d were passed lor payment.
