In order to give his scholars a firm grip of original composition, a Monmouthshire schoolmaster • believes in. the value of what lie calls “an exercise in framing definitions-" Auer illustrating what was wanted, lie set tlio little boys to write one sentence definitions of “boy” and “'girl. ■ Here are a few of the ideas evoked: “A. toy is made of a lot of bonc-s with riesh put round them.” “A girl is near.y the same, but wo do not cut tier hair. “A bov is born a baby." “A girl i> on]v ribs out c-r a man s body. ' A girl is God’s sheep. } “A boy is it ordinary creature made out or dust, and so is a girl.“
