NOTICES REGARDING SPECIAL SEASONS. EAST COAST AND OPOTIKI DISTRICTS.

Gisborne sportsmen will be mterested in the notices in a supplementary Gazette just issued with reference to special seasons for shooting lmpoited and Native game. It contains a iiotiee regarding the special shooting ‘season" (or . Native game in the East, Coast acclimatisation district. It exempts the district from the operation of section 2G of the “Animals Protection Act-, 1908,’ and notifies that the following Native game, viz... grey duck, teal, and black swan may be killed within the district, comprising the Counties of Cook, Waikoluu and Waiapu (except in the areas mentioned in the schedule!, from June 2 to July 31, both days inclusive; the number of such native game that may ho killed by any one person in any one day to not more than 25 head in all. The areas wherein native game shall not bo killed are all that area in the Hawke’s Bay Land district, being the Ratahi lagoon, in the township of To Pttia, Block XVI, Mata survey district; also all lands notified or set apart as sanctuaries or reserves for .the preservation of imported or native game. A noti e regarding the Opcriki acclimatisation district notifies that cock pheasants and Californian quail may be killed, within the district, comprising tho County of Opotiki from Juno 2 to July 31, both days inclusive. The number of cock; pheasants that may bo killed in any one day is restricted to 12. Grey duck and' black swan may be kided from May 1 to July 31, the number to be killed by any one person m any one day being restricted to 25 head. The areas wherein imported game shall not be killed are all that area in the Auckland Land district, situated in Kai Iwi and Kaihu survey districts, Hobson County, being tho lakes known as Lake Waikerc. Lake Tahai'oa, and Lake Kai Iwi, and the •area surrounding tho said lakes included within a line running parallel to and 40 chains distant from the margins of tho said lakes; and all lands notified or set apart as sanctuaries or reserves for the preservation of imported or native game.
