FINAL OF THE WITTY PENNANT. WON BY TURANGANUI CLUB.
Yesterday saw the final match for the Witty Pennant played in ideal weather, and on a fast green. Being tho final, play wag naturally very keen, and of a high order. Turanganui proved their superiority by winning by the handsome margin of 16 points. The Turanganuiitcs are to be congratulated on their performances in the inter-club matches this season,-as they have won both pennants for the first time since the competition was begun. Turanganui won in two rinks and lost in one. Simeon beat Ponsford, Sawyer beat Crawford, and Martin lost to Smith. Simson beat the veteran Ponsford pretty easily by 16 points. 'His team, got away from tho start, and were 10 to 2 on tho 6th head. On the 15th head Sim son was 17 to 10, and from this out scored heavily, eventually winning as before stated. Tho Crawford-Sawycr game was of a pretty even nature, although Sawyer’s team led throughout. On the 11th head they got in a 4, making the score 14 to 5 in their favor. It was of a give and tako order from this out, and Sawyer won by 8. The SnjithAlartin game was a pretty sure thing for Smith’s team, as they were a strong combination, and one that would taking heating from a much stronger team than Alar tin’s was. Smith led from the beginning, and was 21 to his opponent’s 8 on the 13th head, and 22 to 12 on the 17tli head. On the next head Martin got in a 5, and this reduced tho deficiency somewhat. Smith added two 2’s and won by 8. After the match the teams assembled in the pavilion and were addressed by the president ofi tho G.B.C. (Mr Wm.'Petti©). He congratulated tlio victors on their success in the inter-club competitions, and . hoped they would have many more enjoyablo matches between the two clubs. Mr Simson, president of Turanganui Club, responded on behalf of his club. Following wore the csores:— T G Howard.
