MT. LYELL DISASTER.
EVIDENCE AT THE INQUIRY. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT] HOBART, Dec. 19. At the Mount Lyell inquiry, extracts were read from Check-Inspector Gladd’s report, urging the dangerous conditions and the need of an exit at the north. Symonds, one of those rescued from the 1000 ft level, said there were no ladderways therefrom, excepting a winze. If travelling ways had been open and the men instructed to use them, more lives would have been saved.
