SAD RAILWAY FATALITY. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! AUCKLAND. Sept. 9. An accident which terminated fatally occurred at the Newmarket railway station this afternoon, when Fredk. G. Falkner, aged 22. was killed while shunting. Falkner nan in front of a train of moving waggons. His foot slipped and he fell, and before he could rise one of the waggons ran over him. He was removed to the hospital, where he died half-an-liour after. His injuries were very severe, his right arm being practically torn from the shoulder, his right ear being torn off, while he also received injury to the spine. The accident is particularly sad. as the young man had only been married about a month and this is the third death in the family within quite a short period, his brother and sister dying a few months ago. Deceased had been in the .service of the Railway Department for the past five years, and was regarded as a very promising young officer. An inquest will be held to-day.

AN OVERDOSE OF TOXIC. DUNEDIN, Sept. 9. A young woman, evidently suffering from severe internal pains, was found oil the Town Belt above the Boys’ High School this afternoon. She was highly nervous and hysterical. A bottle that bad once contained a beef and iron tonic was beside her, and indications were that she had taken an overdose of the contents. She was taken to the hospital, <w. u had greatly improved hy to-night. Her mime is Ivy Brown and she lives in Clarendon Street.

A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY

Susannah Sharp, a. single woman, aged 79, died from burns on Saturday. At an inquest, Mrs Macarthy stated that deceased had been in bed for some weeks. She inquired the time. Witness lit a candle, and having ascertained the time, witness left the candle alight. The curtain and bed caught fire. Deceased came to her assistance, but deceased’s night apparel caught fire, and she was rather badly burned. The jury returned a verdict of accidental death.
