SHORTAGE OF TEACHERS.
SOUTHLAND EDUCATION BOARD TAKING ACTION.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] INVERCARGILL, Aug. 2. At a meeting of the Southland Education Board to-day a motion was passed calling the attention of the Department to the inadequacy of present facilities for training teachers in the Southland district. It was decided to consult the Department as to the probability of meeting the difficulty by the importation of teachers. If the Department were unfavorable to importation it will be requested to assist financially in the establishment of two model schools in the district. Tlie chairman (Air D. Gilchrist) said it was not worth while importing incompetent teachers and it was not likely that competent teachers arriving in the country would submit to bo sent to the backblocks.
