An important sale will be conducted at 101 Sheehan Street, Whata'upoko, at 2 o’clock this afternoon, when Mr G. K. Miller, auctioneer, will sell tlie whole ofi Mr James Kerr’s household furniture and effects.
The attention of orchard]sts is directed to the practical demonstrations in spraying and pruning, fruit trees, which are to lie given each day this week by Mr W. R. Lloyd Williams, Government orchard instructor. The demonstration to-day will be made at Mr B. Steggall’s, near the saleyards at Matawliero, while to-morrow Mr. T. Swan’s homestead at Manutuke will he the scene of operations. ' The demonstrations each day will commence at 2 o’clock.

The Garrison Ball, which is to be held in the Garrison Hal] this evening, promises t-o eclipse anything of tlie kind ever previously held locally. A strong committee has been hard at work for the past week perfecting the arrangements, and a visit t<> tho hall last evening revealed evidences that they had worked to some purpose. The large building has been most attractively decorated with flags and streamers, while special attention has been paid to the -floor, which should bo in perfect -order. There has -been a phenomenal demand for tickets, and a record attendance should -be # registered to-night. The Gisborne City Band will supply tho music. - ’ ,
