THE HOUSE. YESTERDAY'S SITTING. [PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, July 31. The Souse met at 2.30./ After dealing with the Imprest Sup-' ply Bill and the High Commissionership (reported elsewhere) Mr Massey moved that an address he presented to the Governor expressing the House’s sympathy with the Empress, the Royal Family «nd the Japanese nation in the death of the Mikado. The Mikado was, said Mr Massey, one of the greatest men in modern times. He was a progressive statesman and patriot. He had witnessed the rise of Japan from barbarity to civilisation. Japan was an ally of Britain and that alliance was a good thing foi Britain. Mr MacKenzie seconded the motion, which was carried. Motions of condolence with the relatives of the late Messrs O’Conner and OUiver were also moved by Mr Massey and carriedThe House adjourned till 1.30 tomorrow". THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, July 31. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. On the motion of Mr Bell, seconded by Mr Samuel, the Council passed a. similar motion respecting the death of the Mikado as that passed in the other Chamber. Mr Bell moved a resolution that the Council record its sense of the high public services rendered to the Legislature by the. lato Hon. Mr Oliver (exMinister of the Crown and an ex-mem-ber of b-otli .brandies of the Legislature) and sympathy with the family of the deceased. This was seconded by Mr Luke and spoken to by Messrs Calkm -and Duncan and carried. A similar motion was parsed regarding the late Mr Eugene O’Connor, a former member of the House. The Count”’ adjourned until the evening r.:> - mark of respect to’ tlie Mikado and +<> the deceased politicians. " The Council resumed at 8 p.m. and passed the Imprest Bill. Mr Bell notified the appointment of Hon. T. Mackenzie as High Commissioner. Messrs Jen bin son, Carncross, and Loughn.an expressed their appreciation of the appointment and the Council rose.
