The “Sportsman” says that there does not appear to lie any doubt- that financial support of Arnst would be forthcoming. Arnst, interviewed, said: “I have no excuses to make. Barry is a very fine sculler.”

As regards the future, lie is going to try pigeon shooting on the Continent, and may abandon sculling, which he describes as terribly hard work.

ARNST NOT IN CONDITION. BEACH’S OPINION. (Received Juiv 31. 9.25 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 31. Beach attributed Arnst’s defeat to Lis not allowing sufficient time to train and to his not being well. Barry was undoubtedly a good mail, but compared with Arnst when in condition, could not have a look in. Pearce and George Towns are of opinion that there is something radically wrong with Arnst. Towns declares that Arnst, fit and well, was easily hotter than Barry. Pearce was ready to row Barry immediately if hacking was forthcoming.

Peter Kemp said that if Arnst had been well he should have won easily. A sculler wants at least four or five months in the country before racing. Get Arnst well, match him again, and I -do not hesitate to name him as the winner.
