THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD. [PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, July 1. Hannah Dunn, aged 80 years, a widow, residing in Sandyford street, Sydenham, was knocked down by a motor ear in Colombo street, Sydenham; about 5.40 on Saturday morning and died from the result of the injuries received. At the inquest yesterday The?. Guy, owner and driver of the car, stated that lie was licensed to ply for hire and was returning to town on his proper side of the street, when the motorman on a train car behind rang lus bell. Witness, in order to avoid a collision with two cyclists who were on their wrong side of the road crossed, and when turning to return to-his proper side the woman suddenly appeared'in the middle of the road, and the next thing he knew the car had knocked her down. At the time the motor car was going between four and five miles ian hour. Immediately he saw tlio woman he applied the brakes and believed that the pulled up within five or six feet. The Coroner advised witness always to keep on his proper side of the road. and brought in a verdict as follows: “That the deceased was killed in Colombo street, Sydenham, by being knocked down by a motor ear driven by one Thomas Guy, while on Ins wrong side of the street.” It is probable that tlio police will proceed further in the matter.
