PERSONAL NOTES.
A Sydney cable announces the death of Mr W. -J. Boiinor, the one-time famous cricketer. The King -has knighted the Lord Mayor of Cardiff. Replying to ax; address has Majesty hoped that recent legislation would result in mere cordial feelings heiween masters and men. Bishop Grimes was congratulated bv a great gathering of citizens at Christchurch last night on ins completion of 2-3 years as Bishop. He was presented with a cheque fer one thousand guineas- Bishop Grimes, in replying, said lie would devote the money to the Cathedral. In both branches cf the Legislature yesterday (wires ou r special Parliamentary representative) resolutions expressing a high sense of appreciation of the services rendered to the country by the late Hon. J. McGowan Sir -TLogan Campbell. Dr. J. Wallis Mr. Richard Monk. Mr. W. L Rees (Gisborne), and Mr. K- Hirst (Southland) were adopted, and Parliament adjourned out of respect to the memory of the deceased gentlemen.
