OPERATIONS IN THIS DISTRICT. The medical examination of the youths and young men (who are to servo in* territorial units stationed in this district is proceeding apace, and up to the present 399 have passed through the hands of the medical examiner. Of these 380 have been found to be sound enough in body and limb to enter the ranks, 9 yvere declared unfit for service, 3 yvere exempted for the period of one year, and 7 were declared fit for service in rifle clubs.

The examinations will be continued this evening,, when those between 17 and 18 years of age, and who are residents of the town, will go before the examiner. On Wednesday evening youths between; 18 and 20 years of age who live in town and who have horses will be examined, and on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. all schoolboys in the town schools will be inspected. On Friday night youths between the ages of 20 and 21 years who live in town but who do not own horses are to be submitted to examination, and on Saturday night the medical examiner will' go to Te Karaka, where he will inspect contingents from Puha, Waikohu, Whar tatutu, and Kanakanaia. Youths between' 16 and 17 years are to be inspected at the Garrison Hall on Monday evening, and on Tuesday those between 15 and 16 years will be examined. The members of the posting board for this area are expected to reach Gisborne as soon as the medical examinations are comnleted. The men who have been declared fit for service will then be posted to the units they have expressed a desire to serve in, where this is practicable. There are' bound to be a few cases where an expression of preference cannot be gratified, but it is understood that the board will do. all in its power to settle everything amicably.
