As the collier “Wallarah” was lying at Catherine Hill Bay, the Chief Officer, Mr McConnachie, and l the Second Officer, Mr McGuire, were sleeping over a locker containing rockets. They were awakened with the cabin full of flames, but they managed to escape. Mr McConnachie was seriously injured and Mr McGuire badly scorched. An explosion caused by the rockets followed, and the crew subdued the fire. The Wallarak was badly damaged amidships.
