CRICKET.

Notes by “Short-Slip.”

To llau and Common, Shelton and Co. occupied the arena at Victoria Domain on Thursday. .Baxter won the toss, and with questionable judgment allowed his opponents first use of tlio wicket. Cary, Moore, and J. TI. Wack batted well, and the Te Kau total reached 103. Baxter, Koderick and Hallamore were the most successful bowlers for C.S. and Co. With the strong batting side they had, C.S. and, Co went in to bat confident of heading the task set them. However, Monk and AV. H. Wack bowled so well that C.S. and Co. were dismissed for 51. Bowman played a good innings. The three teams in the Thursday competition are now practically level, and the concluding round should be brimful of interest.

• A third attempt is to be made to send a team to Motu. March loth has been fixed as tile date. All players wishing to make the trip should hand in their names to Mr AV. Gibson, who has been appointed by the Association to arrange the trip.

The Motu have secured a good batsman in C. Feary, who was a regular member of the Gust senior eleven until about a month ago. C. Chapman, of the- United Club, leaves Gisborne for AVhangarei, at the end of this month. Chapman was a most popular player, and his departure will be a distinct loss to his club.

The concert committee of the Cricket Association is hard at work completing arrangements for the entertainment to be held in His Majesty’s Theatre on Thursday evening, March oth. A first-class programme is being arranged. The Association have been under heavy expense this season in laying down the turf wicket and procuring machinery to keep it in order. There is sure to be a record attendance at the concert, as not only cricketers, but all other sportsmen, sympathise with the good work the Associition lias done "in laying down and maintaining a first-class grass wicket in Gisborne.

To-dav Wanderers and Te Ran resume their match at ALctoria Domain, and United and Taruheru continue their gimo at Tarulieru. Both games should prove highly interesting.
