THE LATE FIRE. [Tj THU Editoii.] Sir, —lu connection witli tho lato fire 1 would he glad if you would permit me to mention the case of Air. J. G. Cox, who, I understand, lost the whole of his possessions in tho fire. Mr. Cox is a gentleman who is so universally respected in the town that 1 should think many would be glad to assist him in this time of adversity. Any action along these lines would he merely ail indication ot esteem for a good citizen fittingly shown just at the right time.—l am, etc., “ANONYMOUS.” A CONTRADICTION. Sir, —Aly attention has been drawn to a paragraph in your paper of tlie 17th inst., stating that at Alaraekakallo, Hastings, “sheep were dying in twos and threes owing to lack of feed and water.” This statement is absolutely without foundation, as notwithstanding the continued dry weather there is abundance of feed and water on Alarackakalio .station, and the stock have never looked better. I must say I am surprised that you should make such a statement without first ascertaining the truth.—l am, etc., J. A. ALACFARLANE, Alanagcr Alaraekakaho Station. February 21st, 1908.
