THE O’DOAVD CASE. [To the Editor.] Sir, —I was greatly shocked on reading the particulars in your paper this morning of how the lad O’Dowd came to. lose his leg. Surely, sir, something can be done to stop this kind of tiling from occurring in connecelon with our public hospital The way things are going, instead of people being able to make use of the hospital in cases of serious illness, they will be afraid to go near it. Already very many view it with suspicion, and will tell you without hesitation that they wouldn’t trusty anyone belonging to them there. —1 am, 6tC ‘’ CITIZEN. Gisborne, Oct. 28. [To the Editor,] Sir, —The shameful state of affairs revealed in this morning’s “Times” is a disgrace to the Board. AV'hy don’t they do something? If the truth were known they’ve got so much in the habit of wire-pulling in the interests of their friends that the welfare of the patients is forgotten altogether. For my. part I do not expect to see any improvement until wo have an entirely new Board. I should certainly like to see a public meeting called to go into the whole matter, and if the people feel the way J. 'do about it they would call upon flic present members to resign and make room for. some who will work for the general good and not for private Gisborne, Oct. 28.
